Happisburgh (pronounced Haisbro) is a seaside village on the North East Coast of Norfolk, famous for its red and white lighthouse. It offers visitors a quiet, rural location, sandy beaches and cliff-top walks. The village has a post office/store and a traditional coaching inn and is within a 15-minute drive of the market towns of North Walsham and Stalham with easy access to the Norfolk Broads and many other tourist attractions.

In past years Church Farm has been a favoured holiday location for famous artists such as Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Ivon Hitchens, keen to relax in a rural idyll. The large grain barn and stables have been sympathetically converted to retain character and create four beautiful cottages, which all have exposed flint walls and old beams. There is a large recreation barn (9am-8pm) offering a racket sports area, a pool table, table tennis table and a comfortable seating area with books and games. Each cottage has its own door allowing access directly into the recreation barn. Shop/Pub: 0.25 miles

Once an important place of pilgrimage, the ruins of Bromholme Priory are still to be seen in Bacton today. The Priory was built in 1113 AD by William de Glanville and was home to the Cluniacs, the Black Monks who purchased a piece of the True Cross, the Bromholme Roode. Ensuing miracles ensured visits by many thousands of pilgrims including King Henry III. The priory was mentioned in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, the Domesday Book, and was the subject of a prediction in Mother Shiptons Almanac. Today the coastal village opens its doors to the 21st century pilgrims who visit for their holidays. They enjoy the friendly village atmosphere and the sandy beaches, which are often quiet even in the height of summer. The area is excellent for enjoying bird watching and exploring wildlife at a wide variety of fens including our own adopted charity, Wheatfen.

This is an ideal cottage from which to explore the surrounding area: Strumpshaw Fen RSPB Reserve is only seven miles away and the National Trust properties of Blickling Hall and Felbrigg are within easy reach. Notes: Small uncovered pond in rear garden, care should be taken at all times. Guests may smoke in the summer house. There are steep 'dog leg' stairs in keeping with the age of the property.
