Accommodation overview: Nestling in 15 acres of ancient meadows, woodland and orchard on the slopes of the Alde valley, these three delightful holiday cottages have been sensitively converted from the outbuildings of nearby Cransford Hall. Featuring an Edwardian walled garden, the grounds are a refuge for a variety of wild birds, including owls. Framlingham (4 miles) is a small market town with shops, restaurants and inns; in its picturebook setting, the 12th-century castle dominates the town. Sutton Hoo, with its new visitor centre, is just a 20-minute drive away. Aldeburgh (about 12 miles) is popular for sailing and famous for its music festival and concerts at Snape Maltings. The coastal area is an excellent one for bird-watching, particularly at the RSPB reserve of Minsmere (10 miles). Sports centre, golf and riding all within 20 minutes’ drive.

The gracious Manor House and its cluster of cottages and mellow stone buildings have been sensitively renovated and converted to create an outstanding collection of holiday properties – all with shared use of a superb choice of facilities. A leisure building houses a wide range of amenities (available daily, all the year round) which include an indoor heated swimming pool with changing and shower facilities, a Jacuzzi and sauna. There is a well-equipped multi-gym, too, and the first floor of the building features a large games room (with pool table, table tennis and football game) and a separate snooker room with full-size antique table. The cottages are set in acres of shared grounds, which offer space for relaxing and for children to play, and they lie within 2 miles of the shops and inns at Wooler.
The Northumberland National Park stretches south through Kielder and Wark Forests as far as Hadrian’s Wall, and north to the Scottish border. Long stretches of sand can be found lining the coast south of Berwick-upon-Tweed (16 miles). At Beal (13 miles), the road to Holy Island runs gently down to the shore, where it becomes a causeway covered and impassable at high tide.
These quaint cottages, some of which have originally been cartsheds and byres are charmingly set in small groups within the spacious and colourful grounds. The large Manor House (which provides accommodation for parties of 15), also has a splendid large walled garden allowing total privacy. The setting of these cosy cottages is intriguing, many with small courtyards and gardens, a truly interesting and imaginative conversion full of detail and character – the individual and tasteful interiors are delightful. The Deep in Hull Eden Camp Flamingo Land Pickering with the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway Bridlington’s sandy bay RSPB Bempton Cliffs and the historic city of York with excellent shopping medieval architecture railway museum and the fascinating Jorvik Museum are all about 20 miles. On the opposite side of the hall are a cloakroom W.C. with hand basin, and a fully fitted kitchen / dining room with pale coloured units and coordinating dining suite.

Upstairs are three bedrooms, a king-size 6ft double with one easy chair overlooking the river leading down to the harbour mouth, two twin bedded rooms, one with vanity basin, and bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower fitment over the bath. Accessed from the kitchen and living room, French doors open to a charming and spacious walled patio, ideal for evening barbecues.

It is possible to unload outside the property, but parking is in the car park 200 yards away. Shops, pubs and the harbour are all within easy level walking distance, the coastal footpath is close at hand and the beaches of Trebarwith Strand and Crackington Haven are about 5 miles respectively.
