The Georgian town of Holt is eight miles away with the harbour town of Wells four miles away. Also nearby is the picturesque village of Blakeney, where narrow streets slope down to the tidal creek, and which offers sailing and beautiful coastal and marshland walks. The well-stocked village shop is a legendary village institution, as are the excellent butcher and pub.

The village has one of the country's few chain ferries which take you from one side of the river to the other making the Suffolk Heritage Coast easily accessible.
