Accommodation overview: Good quality, wheelchair friendly barn conversion. One of four cottages which together sleep 18. Shared swimming pool.

Once an important place of pilgrimage, the ruins of Bromholm Priory are still to be seen in Bacton today. The Priory was built in 1113 AD by William de Glanville and was home to the Cluniacs, the Black Monks who purchased a piece of the True Cross, the Bromholm Roode. Ensuing miracles ensured visits by many thousands of pilgrims including King Henry III. The Priory was mentioned in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, the Domesday Book, and was the subject of a prediction in Mother Shipton's Almanac.

Today the coastal village opens its doors to the 21st century pilgrims who visit for their holidays. They enjoy the friendly village atmosphere and the sandy beaches, which are often quiet even in the height of summer. There is a good range of local amenities including pubs, shops, a children's playground and a bowling green.

These four beautifully refurbished cottages are set in the extensive mature and secure gardens and grounds of the 16th century Grade II listed Pilgrims House, which was once the farmhouse of Bromholm Priory. A track behind the properties leads to the sandy beach. See further cottage details and 360 degree views on www.pilgrimsholidaycottages.co.uk Shop: 30 yards Pub: 400 yards

Gardens: Each cottage has its own private area with table, chairs and gas barbecue. There is shared use of the extensive gardens with a summerhouse, outdoor chess set and croquet.

Swimming Pool: At the centre of the complex the 16th Century Grade II listed, thatched barn houses a large 13 x 6 metre heated indoor swimming pool and has exposed beams and stained glass windows, with sauna, shower and wc The pool, with an average year round temperature of 30c, is available for all guests and it may be used between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

There is no lifeguard, so an adult must supervise children at all times and nobody can use the pool area on their own.

Exercise Room & Laundry: On the first floor of the gig house/wood store is an exercise room with exercise bike, weights, air hockey and a pool table. The laundry area has a washing machine and tumble dryer for guests to use free of charge. There are also irons and ironing boards.

Features include: Short breaks • Pets allowed • Internet or WiFI Access • Detached • Garden • Close to the Beach • Close to a Pub • Near Horse Riding

Accommodation overview: A modern detached property enjoying fabulous uninterrupted and far reaching views of open countryside, just a mile from the sea. A fantastic place for walkers being ten minutes from the South West Coast Path.

If you like waking up to far reaching, panoramic views of beautiful open countryside then you'll love Slee's Meadow View. You might also love the fact that this delightful, tastefully decorated modern detached property is just a mile from the sea and the very lovely yet rarely crowded Peppercombe Beach. At high tide this quiet stretch of beach is rocky but low tide will reveal deserted sands and some of the best rock pooling in the area. Little explorers love it! Even in high summer you could be alone here. The walk, through the wooded National Trust owned Peppercombe Valley, is superb and takes about 10-15 minutes. Dogs and their owners will love it - especially as the coast path is just 10 minute's stroll from the property.
Slee's Meadow View is also just a ten minute drive from the surf and sands at Westward Ho!, five minutes from the Big Sheep theme park, five minutes from The Milky Way fun park, ten minutes from the quaint village and harbour at Clovelly and about 30-40 minutes drive along the coast road to the surf and beaches at Bude.
Slee's Meadow View has a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area so it's a very social house to spend time in. A breakfast bar provides informal dining (or a chance to scrutinise the work of the chef whilst enjoying a glass of wine) and a large dining table with six places and a rise and fall lamp can bring a sense of occasion if you need it! On cooler nights the wood burning stove will add an extra cosy feel too. The southerly aspect means that the sun streams in through patio doors on sunny days and the conservatory, with its bookcases and comfy Chesterfield sofa, offers a quiet space to read or take in the views. Both bedrooms are spacious and have patio doors to make the most of the views.
You can step out into the large fenced rear garden from the conservatory - as well as from both bedrooms - to eat, enjoy the views or let the children and pets play (the garden is 'dog-proofed'). The bedrooms are served by a bright family bathroom.
Slee's Meadow View makes a great base for exploring this quiet and beautiful corner of North Devon. Whilst the outlook is rural, the house is close to the coast, RHS Rosemoor, local attractions and some great country pubs. The Coach and Horses at Horns Cross is just across the road too!
