Built of Lakeland stone, the cottage is very characterful, with cosy rooms, exposed beams and that all important open fire, Hayrake is also home to other features that youd expect from such an old property, including the odd squeaky floorboard and uneven floor! Emphasis is more on creating a homely atmosphere than frills and fanciness, however Hayrake is very comfortable and offers everything for the holidaymaker. On three floors, the views get better the higher you go so you may have to toss a coin to decide who will have the top room.

Accommodation overview: Broughton-in-Furness is well situated a few miles west of nearby Coniston, is becoming a favoured destination for the more discerning visitor, who appreciate its tranquil charm and acknowledge it as part of the Undiscovered Lakeland. Coniston and the wonderful surrounding fell ranges and lakes can be explored along with the nearby River Duddon immortalised by Wordsworth as one of the most scenic rivers in England.Embraced by this beautiful countryside, Broughton is becoming increasingly popular being well located, not far from the busier towns of Ambleside and Windermere; there are some excellent beeches nearby to the west, and to the south Ulverston is a vibrant larger town. Broughtons focal point is the Georgian market square with its obelisk erected in 1810 to commemorate the jubilee of King George III. Nearby old stone slabs can still be seen where traders laid out their wares, as can the stocks in which wrongdoers were punished. Bordering the square the Tourist Information Office is adjacent to Beswicks a charming restaurant, close to some of the cafes and excellent traditional pub where a welcoming atmosphere, fine foods and Real Ales can be enjoyed. Accommodation overview: The hamlets of Lowick Green and Lowick Bridge sit at the Southern most tip of Coniston Water in an area of beautiful open countryside. This is rural Cumbria at its best, Lowick being a fine example of a village, hosting an annual agricultural show every September, to include Cumberland wrestling, fell running and hound trails. Ulverston, home to Stan Laurel, is a mere 7 miles away to the South with Coniston itself only 15 minutes drive. The cottage is located across the road from the Farmers Arms, a 14th Century coaching Inn, offering fine food and a real country pub atmosphere with local ales and open fires. Thorn Cottage is a substantial property of great character, evidenced in original floorboards and exposed beams. Dating back to the 1800s, numerous pictures around the house depict its ancient past and the refurbishments in recent times have been done sympathetically and with great care. The cottage is very comfortable and spacious, just the spot for a family get together, whatever time of the year. Please note that due to its age, the house does have a number of small steps here and there and you should be careful to either bend or bump.
