Accommodation overview: High Cunsey Cottage was the former cow shed, yes cow shed, to High Cunsey Farm, a traditional Westmorland farmhouse in a delightful, quiet area of the Lakes. Beatrix Potter loved this part of Lakeland, the sheer beauty and tranquility that so greatly inspired her remains unchanged to this day. High Cunsey nestles on the shores of Lake Windermere, the farmhouse and cottage sharing their own rather special piece of Lake frontage and shoreline. Accommodation overview: Bluebird Cottage sits proudly above Coniston Village and enjoys superb views of the Lake and surrounding fell ranges, sufficient to tempt the most novice of walkers. The village has a good number of amenities for the self caterer although all the local pubs offer bar food during the day and into the evening. Accommodation overview: A mere 2 miles from Coniston, Torver is a peaceful hamlet with east access to some of the best mountain bike routes, water borne activities and walking in the National Park. Low level walks toward Walna Scar and in to the village itself are ideal for first time visitors and, for the more experienced, Coniston Old Man must not be missed. Torver has two excellent hostelries offering speciality ales and excellent food, Wilsons Arms and The Church House, with further good pubs and everyday shops in nearby Coniston.

Accommodation overview: The peaceful village of Finsthwaite nestles amongst large ares of woodland one mile from Lakeside at the southern end of the Lake Windermere and close to Hawkshead and Grizedale Forest. The area offers some excellent walking opportunities, much favoured by Wainwright, including the circular 5 mile walk to High and Low Dam, from where the waters drove the nearby Stott Park Bobbin Mill. High Dam Tarn is a well known beauty spot and where stands Finsthwaite Tower, built to commemorate those servicemen who defeated the French in the 18th century. St Peters Church is well worth a visit, the churchyard home to the grave of the Finsthwaite Princess, believed to be the daughter of Prince Charles Edward, the Young Pretender.
