Accommodation overview: Lynwood Cottage occupies an elevated position within the village of Backbarrow, a mere 2 miles south of Newby Bridge at the southern tip of Lake Windermere. The area is an ideal base from where to explore the delights of the Furness Peninsular, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and, of course, the steam cruisers on the lake itself. The property is also within easy reach of Grizedale Forest, home to the Go Ape attractions, a series of climbs and walkways set above the forest floor, all with the security of safety harness! Newly refurbished in a contemporary style with much use of bright co-ordinating linens and fabrics throughout, Lynwood is a comfortable and quality home and enjoys direct access from the rear onto the surrounding fells. We are certain that plenty of attractions will keep the whole family busy but for a change of scenery and all important relaxation, a day at the nearby Whitewater Leisure Centre can be enjoyed, payable locally.

Accommodation overview: Sedbergh is set to the West of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the eastern fells of the Lake District, only 30 minutes drive from Windermere and is therefore ideal for exploring both areas of unspoilt and protected countryside. Sedbergh has a variety of narrow lanes and small clusters of old buildings including a 12th century Norman church (restored in 1886) and, overlooking the town, is the site of Castlehaw, an ancient motte and bailey castle. However Sedbergh has a new status, Book Town for England, and as such has a growing number of book shops, both new and second hand and is set to evolve over the coming months and years into a literary paradise.

This Grade 1* listed building is regarded as one of the most important literary buildings in the UK frequented by the likes of Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Keats, Shelley, Sir Walter Scott and many others. Greta Hall benefits from a Central yet quiet location in Keswick with immediate pedestrian access to the town centre, Skiddaw, Latrigg, Derwentwater and the Borrowdale valley. Situated in 3 acres of lawn and woodland garden which has shared use with the owners family with river frontage and wonderful views from the grounds, Greta Hall is a truly unique place to stay. The Coleridge Wing is from where Coleridge drew his inspiration, and saying I question if there be room in England which commands a view of Mountains, Lakes and Woods superior to that in which I am now writing. The Coleridge Wing has much character with many pieces of hand made furniture individually designed by the owner.

There are two delightful pubs and a village shop, a mile away, in the neighbouring village of Askham. The attractive market town of Penrith just 10 minutes drive.

The neighbouring property of Millerdale has the same owner and the 2 cottages may be let seperately or together for up to 11 people. Kiln Howe lies adjacent to Kiln How Beck in the centre of Threlkeld village along a short lane off the main street. Threlkeld sits at the foot of the mighty Blencathra, which can be viewed from outside the cottage, and lies just 4 miles to the east of Keswick and 15 minutes drive from the motorway. The Horse and Farrier public house and restaurant is within 100 yards and the Salutaion Inn, which serves bar meals, is approximately 200 yards. There is a footpath leading from the cottage directly onto Blencathra, which rises steeply above the village, infact there are so many walks locally your car may be parked up for the week. A shared garage with Millerdale provides secure storage for bikes.
