The national coastal path runs through the farm and nearby Mouth Mill Beach and Blackchurch Rock are a leisurely 30-minute stroll. The quaint village of Clovelly, with harbour, pubs and cobbled streets is a further hour’s walk along the coast. Hartland village is just over 2 miles away with pubs, small shops, abbey and lighthouse.

Marshwood Manor offers excellent accommodation and facilities in a tranquil rural setting, surrounded by Dorset’s loveliest countryside, and only 5 miles from the unspoilt beaches and golden sandstone cliffs of the coastline. The estate’s 10 acres of lawn, garden, pasture and woodland offer plenty of room for adults to stroll and children to play.
The properties have been carefully formed from a fine original range of buildings next to the manor house and may be booked together to accommodate larger groups holidaying together (property refs DEY, DFA, DEX, DUS, DUT, DWS) Previously filmed for BBC television, all retain character and charm, whilst offering comfortable holiday accommodation fitted to a high standard throughout. Each has its own garden with furniture, and all enjoy shared use of the extensive gardens and grounds – as well as a range of facilities, including use of the owners’ small outdoor heated swimming pool (1st May - 30th Sept) set in a walled garden. There is a large games barn with pool table and table tennis, and a children’s play area with swings and slide. Approached along a private drive and set well back from the road, the cottages are perfectly positioned for enjoying this delightful corner of Dorset.
There are a variety of beautiful beaches, both sand and pebble, within a five to ten mile radius, including those at Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seatown, Eype, West Bay and Burton Bradstock. Fossil-rich cliffs define this dramatic stretch of coastline, which encompasses the 2,000-acre National Trust estate of Golden Cap. This is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and superb walking country, both on the rolling chalk hills overlooking fertile inland valleys and on the coastal footpaths offering spectacular cliff top views. It is also an area full of romance and history, with three ancient hill forts and the house and gardens of Forde Abbey all nearby.
A range of attractions is on offer in nearby country towns. Lyme Regis is a pretty seaside resort, its elegant colour-washed buildings and promenade lining a handsome harbour. Motor boats can be hired and there are fishing trips, a sailing school, and a windsurfing school. Bridport is a thriving market town, featured on TV’s River Cottage, the Port Bredy of Hardy’s novels, offering a good choice of shops, inns, restaurants, an arts centre and a sports centre with indoor pool. The coastline is excellent for sea fishing and inland waters offer good coarse fishing. Golfers will find courses at Lyme Regis and West Bay. Guests can enjoy art classes with a trained instructor in our own studio (subject to an additional charge, availability and prior booking). There are also riding stables in the area. Caterers are available locally. The local shop at Marshwood and two charming thatched country pubs are within a short drive. Shops 2 miles.

A 2-minute stroll from the garden leads to the middle of the dunes and the edge of the beach, confirms that this spacious detached holiday home deserves the name Beach House. The garden has a large decked area to enjoy al fresco dining at anytime of the day or a barbecue at the end of the day on the beach. There are many tourist attractions for all members of the family from Holywell Bay’s very own fun park and golf course just minutes from the house, to Crealy Adventure Park, Lappa Valley Railway and Dairyland which are just a few of the attractions aimed at younger members of the family. A surf school and hire shop, two good pubs that serve local produce and a beach shop are all available in the village. Horse riding, cycling, diving and sea fishing are all available locally. A short drive or good walk along the coastal path, that runs close to the house, leads to Crantock, a quaint village with its own golden beach. Newquay, with its surf and beach culture is close by and has many restaurants, shopping, a zoo, leisure centre, swimming and a working harbour where visitors can take to the sea on one of the many fishing boats and hopefully catch the evening’s dinner. Watergate Bay, home to Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurants is nearby and Padstow, with many excellent eateries, including Rick Stein’s restaurant and excellent fish and chip shop is a short drive along one of the most beautiful coast roads in the country and a must for all visitors. The Park is applying for a ‘Green Business Award’ as the importance of supporting the natural environment is strongly advocated here, ensuring sustainability and protecting the heritage of this area. Responsible tourism is a fundamental part of the business ethos and informs all that this family-run company does.
The Park is now open all year round, including Christmas, half terms and Easter, which is possible due to the introduction of central heating in all properties, including solar thermal systems, underfloor heating, and improved insulation and ventilation.
Eco lodges, built using sustainable materials with a low carbon rating, blend in beautifully with the landscaping and native planting around The Park. The range of cottages provides that extra touch of comfort and privacy. Some of the units are specifically designed to create disability access with ramps, bathing facilities and thresholds to allow easy wheelchair manoeuvrability.

The Park at Mawgan Porth has a huge range of facilities for everyone to enjoy, whatever age, such as an outdoor pool and terrace area. There is also an indoor leisure centre which includes a cafe, heated indoor swimming pool and lounge space with sauna and steam room. There are picnic and seating areas, communal fire pit, barbecues, trampoline, outdoor activity equipment, children’s play yurt with toys and games, swings, woodland and coastal walks to explore and an on-site shop. Close by is Bideford a historic fishing port and market town with steep narrow medieval streets and a busy quay from where visitors can enjoy a two hour boat trip to Lundy Island. Also within easy reach is Braunton nature reserve a beautiful 'lunar landscape' wilderness of sand dunes noted for its rare and exotic plants.
Within easy reach are the glories of Exmoor National Park – among its numerous attractions are the charming coastal resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth linked by a unique water-powered funicular cliff railway; the National Trust's mesmerising Watersmeet – a woodland gorge with beautiful walks where the East Lyn River meets Hoaroak Water; Badgeworthy Water – the supposed hideout of the notorious 'Doone' family; Dunkery Hill – at 1705 ft the highest point of the moor; and the ever popular of Minehead – a traditional seaside resort and the start of the West Somerset Railway. There are splendid National Trust properties at Arlington Court Dunster Castle and Knightshayes Court.
This is wonderful walking country too. Magnificent views can be savoured amidst the tantalising beauty of Exmoor National Park and all along the north Devon coastal path. With its soaring cliffs quaint harbours and long stretches of beach almost entirely made up of designated areas of outstanding natural beauty north Devon's fabulous coastline is a joy to explore.
Riding sailing and golf are all readily available locally and fly fishing can be enjoyed at Blakewell Fisheries conveniently located at the end of the drive leading to the cottages. Pubs serving food and a good choice of shops are found in Barnstaple 3 miles.
