Accommodation overview: Perched high above St Austell bay, this impressive Cornish stone farmhouse provides fabulous sea and coastal views across the bay. Standing detached, the house is set in a well established and ideally designed garden, which also provides a perfect spot for relaxing and soaking up the ‘picture postcard’ views. The beach can be found approximately 500 yards away and is perfect for paddling or swimming, yet also has facilities for launching boats, subject to time restrictions. Porthpean is a small hamlet that sits directly on the south Cornwall coast and provides a peaceful secluded spot for a holiday, whilst being within easy access of many of the attractions that Cornwall has to offer. The Cornish coastal path runs close to the property itself and is an ideal trail for walkers to enjoy the coastline. The local 18 hole golf club is also within 500 yards and is open to non members on a ‘pay and play’ basis. The historic village of Charlestown, with its tall sailing ships, shipwreck and heritage centre, restaurants, bars and cafes is 1½ miles distant and can also be reached via the coastal path. The entire village has been designated a conservation area and retains much of its past charm, which is why it is often used as a setting for film and TV. South from Porthpean leads to Pentewan - a small village that has an old harbour that is now used as a bird sanctuary. Cycle hire can be found in the village, as well as sailing facilities and a large beach. A further two miles leads to Mevagissey, with its quaint narrow streets, art galleries, curio shops and working harbour that provides sea fishing, sightseeing trips and a ferry across the bay. The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Roseland peninsula are all within a short drive. Shops and pubs 1½ miles.

Accommodation overview: Within 2 miles of three sandy beaches and commanding magnificent coastal and country views from its elevated position , this spacious, very comfortable and well-equipped detached house is tucked away peacefully along a track. Set in its own private 1½ acres of grounds and garden, a haven for wildlife, it is only a 10-minute walk down to the enchanting harbour of Mullion Cove, now in the care of the National Trust. A natural tunnel through the greenstone rock leads at low tide to a little sandy beach. There are glorious cliff walks leading to a further series of sandy beaches, or southwards through part of the Lizard National Nature Reserve, where a wide range of heathland and cliff-top plants may be seen, and sea-birds include kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills and shags. The clear water offshore attracts divers, and surfboards are for hire in several coves.
Mullion (1 mile) is one of the largest villages on the Lizard Peninsula, with shops, banks, several inns and restaurants, and a golf course; at nearby Angrouse several ancient barrows have been opened to disclose prehistoric artefacts, now on display in the Truro Museum. Five miles away is the National Trust’s Penrose Estate, at the centre of which is a freshwater lake more than a mile long, and miles of paths wind through delightful woodland. The market town of Helston (10 miles) has good facilities for visitors, including tennis courts, putting and bowling greens, cinema, swimming-pool and famous Blue Anchor pub, which brews its own beer. Nature lovers will find a great deal of interest in this area. On the eastern side of the peninsula, around the estuary of the Helford River, there are some beautiful gardens to visit. Glendurgan Gardens (NT) has a magnificent collection of rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias, as well as tree ferns and bananas which flourish in the wonderfully mild climate of this region. At nearby Gweek is the National Seal Sanctuary which cares for rescued seals. Within easy reach is Penzance, with regular trips to the Isles of Scilly, and charming St Ives. Land’s End can be reached in an hour or so. Gliding is available locally. Shops 1 mile.

Canoeing horse riding sea fishing and excellent walking on the coastal path are all found nearby as is Mount Edgcumbe Country Park whilst for the young at heart go karting is available near Liskeard (15 minutes' drive). This large, well-presented and equipped house offers an ideal place to base a family holiday or a short break with friends or family. It has its own private drive and garden and guests have use of the facilities at the golf club and spa. There are many all over the New Forest National Park, where wild ponies roam freely among miles of heath land. There are also many other places of interest to visit within the area, such as the village of Burley, Exbury Gardens and Beaulieu Motor Museum. Regular ferries to the Isle of Wight depart from the famous royal yachting town of Lymington. Bournemouth is close by with its Blue Flag beach, well kept town gardens, trips on the Bournemouth Eye, which rises high above the town to give the most amazing panoramic views over the whole area. At the foot of the pier is the fascinating Oceanarium where the whole family can discover life beneath the waves. Poole is within easy reach, with its Blue Flag beach at Sandbanks and the harbour town where trips to Brownsea Island (NT) can be enjoyed. Shop ½ mile, pub ¼ mile, restaurant on site, beach 9 miles.
