Situated in the heart of rolling Devonshire countryside, Ashcombe nestles in a peaceful valley close to the seaside resorts of Dawlish and Torquay and the stunning beaches at Teignmouth. Careful landscaping has provided patios and lawns for both morning and afternoon sun and the properties border a pretty, grassed courtyard with a central fountain. There is an indoor heated swimming pool, complete with changing rooms, at Woodhouse Farm. Easily accessible from major routes and close to the end of the M5, Ashcombe is South Devon’s countryside at its best, with deep secluded valleys and rolling tree-covered hills affording striking views stretching from the River Exe for miles along the impressive coastline. There is a multitude of picturesque villages with historic inns and curiosity shops, and always just around the corner lies somewhere to relax, and indulge in a delicious Devon cream tea! The sandy beaches at Dawlish and Teignmouth are a delight, and within a stone’s throw is the drama of Dartmoor, a great wilderness of extremes, barren in some areas, lush in others, famous for its rocky tors and wild ponies. Golf can be found locally with courses at Teignmouth (2½ miles), Dawlish Warren (3½ miles) and Woodbury Common (12 miles). Sea and coarse fishing by arrangement. Main shops 3 miles.

There is superb walking riding and mountain biking nearby in the Quantock Hills the Brendon Hills and on Exmoor. The surrounding unspoilt countryside with its quaint villages and pubs remains little changed from the days when it offered inspiration to the famous poets Coleridge and Wordsworth.

The sandy beaches of Trebarwith Strand to the east, and Polzeath/New Polzeath to the west are within a ¼ hour’s drive and have wonderful swimming and surfing facilities. Port Isaac is a similar distance away from the well known coastal resort of Rock with its shops, bars, restaurants and sailing. Picturesque Padstow lies close by and is characterised by quaint streets and slate houses that cluster round the working fish harbour, together with its famous Rick Stein restaurants and bistro. From Padstow harbour, boats offer cruises in Padstow Bay and a ferry trip across the estuary to Rock can be made. Forming part of the Camel Trail, the 5-mile Padstow to Wadebridge stretch offers cyclists a level route that passes by Pinkson Creek, a habitat rich in bird life. Tintagel, with its mystical castle is but a short drive away, and Bodmin Moor also lies within easy reach. There are a number of golf courses in the area, including the well known St Enedoc and Trevose courses. Shop 200 yards.
