Self catering accommodation in Under Skiddaw sleeps 12.
Features include: Short Breaks Detached Sleeps 12
Accommodation overview: Ormathwaite Hall (ref LP7) and the adjacent Coach House (ref LP6) are stunning holiday homes and are beautifully positioned in a peaceful, countryside location just over a mile from Keswick at the foot of Skiddaw. Presented to a very high standard with a relaxing and comfortable ambience makes this a wonderful place to stay at any time of the year. The impressive main house is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion which is spacious and well equipped with unique charm and character. It boasts many original features including fireplaces, an amazing art deco bathroom and oak beams. The Coach House was sympathetically renovated in 2006 and like the main house oozes character and original features such as vaulted timber ceilings. Old and new have been blended to create a period property with modern features. From most windows of both properties and from the garden there are exceptional panoramic views of the mountain range of Skiddaw to Grisedale and Causey Pikes and beyond to Derwentwater and the Borrowdale fells. There are approximately 3 acres of enchanting gardens to enjoy incorporating lawned terraces, a crystal clear cascading stream, paved walkways, a walled kitchen garden and a wealth of interesting plants and wild life, plus each property has its own private garden area. As well as the wonderful gardens to relax in, the estate also owns a mature beech and oak woodland which is home to deer and red squirrels. Keswick and the surrounding area provides some of the Lake District’s most spectacular scenery. The four highest peaks top out at over 3000 feet with many other famous fells lagging not far behind. The quite different lakes of Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite, Thirlmere and Ullswater provide superb backdrops for a day’s cruising and walking. Keswick has a real year-round character, and makes a handy starting point for exploring Borrowdale, the forested Whinlatter Pass, or around the little visited but stunning Back o’Skiddaw. The dramatically sited standing stones at Castlerigg, above Keswick, are a worthwhile detour and are the most prominent reminder of lakeland’s ancient inhabitants. Castles, museums and exhibitions will help explain the county’s history and the delightful villages and minor roads are a joy to cycle through. If guests choose to come to the lakes in the summer they can combine their visit with one of the region’s many annual events such as the Keswick Jazz Festival, the Lowther Game Fair, pottery festivals or the numerous country and agricultural shows which provide a fascinating snapshot of traditional rural life in the region. A renowned Cumbrian chef can be booked on request to make that special meal served in the comfort of the holiday home. There is a variety of shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants in Keswick, 1 mile away. Nearest pub ½ mile.

Accommodation overview: High Cunsey Cottage was the former cow shed, yes cow shed, to High Cunsey Farm, a traditional Westmorland farmhouse in a delightful, quiet area of the Lakes. Beatrix Potter loved this part of Lakeland, the sheer beauty and tranquillity that so greatly inspired her remains unchanged to this day. High Cunsey nestles on the shores of Lake Windermere, the farmhouse and cottage sharing their own rather special piece of Lake frontage and shoreline. A variety of walks can be enjoyed from the door, a mile or so to the nearest watering hole, with Grizedale Forest and the Go Ape experience only a short distance from Cunsey, by foot, bike or car. Alternatively, a trip on the car ferry across Lake Windermere will bring you to the busier resort of Bowness, excellent for shopping with a variety of specialist shops, bars and restaurants.
