Accommodation overview: Backbarrow, 1 1/2 miles from the South of lake Windermere, was home to the Backbarrow Ironworks who produced domestic iron goods such as kettles and box irons but were also renowned for the manufacture of cannons and other armaments. The days of industry are long gone and Backbarrow is now a super village visited by holidaymakers exploring the nearby Haverthwaite Railway which is within walking distance of the cottage on the A590 and offers special events such as Pensioner, Thomas, Diesel and Santa weekends. Another nearby attraction is 'The Lakeland motor museum' recently opened and within walking distance of the property. Furness Wildlife Park is nearby for an enjoyable day out. The property is situated in an area that is accessible to all areas of the National Park by either car or public transport. Ben's Row Cottage is in a quiet position in Brow Edge and has been lovingly restored and furnished to create a super holiday home. Accommodation overview: Broughton-in-Furness is well situated a few miles west of nearby Coniston, is becoming a favoured destination for the more discerning visitor, who appreciate its tranquil charm and acknowledge it as part of the "Undiscovered Lakeland". Coniston and the wonderful surrounding fell ranges and lakes can be explored along with the nearby River Duddon immortalised by Wordsworth as one of the most scenic rivers in England. Embraced by this beautiful countryside, Broughton is becoming increasingly popular being well located, not far from the busier towns of Ambleside and Windermere; there are some excellent beeches nearby to the west, and to the south Ulverston is a vibrant larger town. Broughton's focal point is the Georgian market square with its obelisk erected in 1810 to commemorate the jubilee of King George III. Nearby old stone slabs can still be seen where traders laid out their wares, as can the stocks in which wrongdoers were punished. Bordering the square the Tourist Information Office is adjacent to 'Beswicks' a charming restaurant, close to some of the cafes and excellent traditional pub where a welcoming atmosphere, fine foods and Real Ales can be enjoyed.
