Dartmouth, with its rich seafaring history, lies a mere 5 miles away and offers a wide range of boating and fishing activities, as well as an annual Regatta in August. Here visitors will be greeted by a colourful collection of yachts and other vessels lining the quayside, as well as pastel-washed houses clinging to the hillsides. Places of interest in Dartmouth include the 17th century Butterwalk shopping arcade, Bayard’s Cove (featured in the ‘Onedin Line’), the castles of Dartmouth and Bearscove, as well as several naval museums.
Travelling further up the coastline, the popular beaches of Goodrington Sands, the much acclaimed resort of Torquay and the superb zoo and botanic gardens at Paignton are all well worth a visit. Kingsbridge, Totnes, with its Tudor summer markets, and Newton Abbot all easily accessible. Fishing, walking and bird watching locally.
