It is an ideal location for a family holiday by the sea or for walkers and cyclists wishing to explore the North Yorkshire Moors. In Whitby the steam train can be boarded to take a memorable journey through the glorious Esk Valley into Heartbeat villages of Grosmont and Goathland, or the cobbled streets lined with inns, tea rooms, antique and curio shops can be explored. Scarborough boasts two bays with long sandy beaches, a colourful promenade, a busy town centre with the Spa theatre (home to a live orchestra) and the Stephen Joseph Theatre. A trip to Peasholm Park can be combined with a visit to the Sea Life Centre or take a stroll along the Esplanade and take in the stunning views over Scarborough towards the 12th-century castle ruins.
