Greta Bridge is a landmark hamlet, south of the A66 trans-Peninne road and only 4 miles south-east of the market town of Barnard Castle. Built on the site of a Roman settlement, and beside the pretty River Greta, is the neighbouring Morritt Arms Hotel (a 17th-century coaching inn, where Charles Dickens stayed whilst researching for his novel Nicholas Nickleby), which serves delicious food.
There is much to do and see in the surrounding area with Darlington a mere 18 miles distant. Within an hour’s drive there are many racecourses including Sedgefield, Catterick, Wetherby, York and Newcastle to name but a few. Scotch Corner is 9 miles, and Teeside 30 miles.
