Accommodation overview: A particularly charming 16th century detached country house which has been beautifully restored and set in the heart of this lovely village on the fringe of Exmoor National Park. The Green occupies a prominent setting within the peaceful and unspoilt Somerset village of Monksilver, considered by many to be one of the most attractive in West Somerset. It includes an ancient church, popular inn and is at the foot of the Brendon Hills, within the boundaries of Exmoor National Park. A wide range of amenities are available in the rural town of Williton, around 3 miles away. Taunton, the county town of Somerset, is some 15 miles away and provides a wide range of shops and recreational facilities. The nearest beach is less than 5 miles away at Watchet, which has a fossil beach and a steam railway. The popular seaside town of Minehead is 10 miles away with lovely sandy beaches, a choice of supermarkets and a steam railway. The surrounding area is regarded as being some of the most attractive countryside in the West Country and offers numerous opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as riding, walking and cycling. Accommodation overview: Idyllically set on the banks of Carsington Water these two beautiful barn conversions are part of a small group enjoying a peaceful setting and fabulous views over the sparkling lake. There is no through traffic and the cottages offer direct access to the circular 8 miles of lake path. Both cottages boast a patio overlooking the lake and for children there is a wood and small play area with toddler swings and slide. Carsington Water boasts an RYA recognised water sports centre offering dinghy windsurfer and canoe hire and tuition and junior activity sessions for ages 816 in the summer holidays (advanced booking advisable). Bank fishing for brown trout can be enjoyed just 50 yards from the cottages and rowing boats may be hired from the fishery centre. Across the lake the visitor centre provides a restaurant shops cycle hire and an adventure playground. Accommodation overview: Chapel Cottage is a traditional stone cottage with a timber frame extension set in a large garden, opening out onto fields, situated on a no-through road in a very secluded hamlet. There is little traffic beyond the occasional tractor or car. Small children will enjoy the chickens, horses and sheep in the neighbouring fields on walks short enough for little legs and can enjoy cycling or a visit to the village well. There are great longer walks which dogs love leading from the village to Worton Wood, and footpaths to Great Tew, Sandford and beyond. If you are a keen cyclist Ledwell is an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds. Great Tew, with the famous Falkland Arms pub, is only 2 miles away and for those keen on real ale you can take a tour round the Hook Norton brewery, a Victorian brewery using one of the last commercially operated steam engines. There are excellent farmers’ markets every Saturday in villages within 15 minutes of the cottage and a wide range of restaurants, and cafes in the nearest town Chipping Norton, which also has a lido and indoor swimming pool. The designer outlet centre of Bicester Village is only 20 minutes away and other attractions within a 30 minute car drive include Blenheim Palace, traditional Cotwold villages Stow-on-the Wold and Burford, and Oxford.
