There are also the remains of a leper chapel by the church and a monastery. The beach is shingle but at low tide it is partly sandy. There are many scenic pathways across the heath to the coastguard cottages and national trust tearooms. Amongst the numerous trails leading from Dunwich is one to Walberswick and on to Southwold via the ferry or bridge.
