Accommodation overview: This 15th-century manor house, with its own pretty garden, has tremendous character, a friendly atmosphere and is extremely well furnished. The spacious beamed sitting room is set on the first floor to take full advantage of the wonderful coastal views. Attached to Manor Cottage (GAX) but completely self-contained, it enjoys a picturesque setting on the green, in the peaceful Cornish hamlet of West Pentire – only 300 yards down a cliff path from acres of clean golden sand (see Manor Cottage GAX). Guests can enjoy free use of leisure facilities at a hotel 50 yards away including Jacuzzi, swimming pool, gym and changing facilities; spa treatments are also available at cost. Children and adults alike can sample the delights of rock pool fishing, exploring caves or surfing. By hiring a pony it is possible to ride cross-country to the beaches of Porth Joke and Holywell, without the need to cross any roads. Set in the heart of National Trust land, the holiday property is surrounded by magnificent walking country, and is an ideal base from which to explore Cornwall’s splendid countryside and unique history as well as its magnificent coastline. The immediate area is renowned for its superb sandy surfing beaches, punctuated by craggy headlands. Perranporth (named after the patron saint of tin miners) is 10 miles to the south, famous for its drifting sands which have twice buried the church. Lifeguards patrol the wide sandy beach in summer, and surf boards and wet suits can be hired by the day. Further along is St Agnes with its superb coastal views, while to the south lies Truro, the unofficial capital of Cornwall, offering good shops and restaurants, a splendid cathedral and The Royal Cornwall Museum with extensive displays on the county. A short distance across the green, the Crantock Bay Hotel welcomes visitors in its restaurant and bar. The historic and family friendly Bowgie Inn is adjacent and offers a wide selection of food as well as local beers and ciders, and sports fans can enjoy Sky coverage. A general store (open in season) can be found nearby, and Crantock village and its shops are only 1 mile away. The lively resort of Newquay, with its cliffs honeycombed by numerous caves, is 5 miles distant across the estuary to the north. Shops 1 mile. Attractive beamed dining room with small bar. Accommodation overview: This attractive holiday cottage is attached to the Manor House (property ref GAW) but is under different ownership and is completely self-contained. It sits quietly on a green within 800 yards of acres of golden sand, rock pools and caves (see photograph – dogs allowed). Surfing and pony hire are available nearby and, on this NT land, the only road leads to the hamlet of West Pentire – allowing safe walking or riding along the coast. An old inn lies adjacent to the cottage. Newquay 5 miles. Village shops 1 mile. Large, comfortable sitting room, open stone fireplace, fitted with electric fire. Accommodation overview: This welcoming, detached, granite house, built in 1870, is ideally situated in the small, quiet and beautiful hamlet of West Pentire. There is no through access elsewhere by car. It is 2-3 minutes’ walk to the headland. Because of careful management by the NT, there is a profusion of flowers and birds, including larks, in season. The sandy Porth Joke Beach and Crantock Beach are a few minutes’ walk from the house, though at high tide access to Crantock Beach is through the dunes and takes a few minutes longer. Both are ideal for children and surfers. For miles of coastal walks join the Coastal Path here. Further afield there are numerous opportunities to explore - Newquay, including Fistral beach (5 miles), Padstow, Truro, Penzance, the Eden Project, the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, famous houses and gardens. There are countless attractions for children. Pub 2 minutes’ walk. Village shop 1 mile. Large sitting/dining room with stone fireplace and door to garden. Modern, fitted, well-equipped kitchen.
