Accommodation overview: Steeped in history, Ben Venue is an imposing listed Victorian house built in 1890, once owned by the brother of A.R Johnson wax polish empire of America. Ben Venue (HKKB) is attached to Lemon Tree Cottage (HMMS) and the owner’s apartment. In Ben Venue (HKKB), many original features are still evident, with a very grand staircase, and large chandeliers throughout as well as high ceilings which add to the charm and character of this most beautiful property. It is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, from the piano in the entrance to the four-poster beds, the large bathroom and en-suite shower rooms. There have been many famous celebrities who have visited the property over the years and enjoyed many a game of snooker on the full size snooker table - see all the photos adorning the walls including Ray Reardon, Max Bygraves and Bobby Davro to name but a few. All of the rooms have elegance about them; there are huge picture windows, and sea views from the ground and first floors. Lemon Tree Cottage has its own entrance and is also decorated to a high standard from Italian marble floors to beautiful furnishings. Torquay has so much to offer and these are the perfect properties for family get-togethers, friends reunited and celebrations. There are 22 miles of coastline, cliffs, coves, beaches and walks, with opportunities for surfing, swimming, diving, sailing, angling and to study the natural wildlife at leisure. Stunning views are to be seen just about everywhere across the bay, out over the English Channel, along the 40 miles of Lyme Bay to Portland Bill or inland towards the tors of Dartmoor. Torquay is an ideal base from which to visit Dartmouth, Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth. It is a place to relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a holiday in a classic English seaside resort. Accommodation overview: With magnificent sea views across Torbay, this beautiful Victorian villa is set in a quiet road just half a mile from the harbour and marina at Torquay and offers very spacious and comfortable holiday accommodation, ideal to relax and unwind. Adjoining a private residence it is elegantly furnished to an exceptionally high standard with original marble and wood carved fireplaces, ‘coal-effect’ gas fires and ornate ceilings. From the French doors in the living room there is a south-facing terrace with stunning sea views and here guests will find the inviting, kidney-shaped swimming pool (which is illuminated at night), together with sun beds.
All four bedrooms have their own en-suite facilities and the master bedroom, with TV, has its own sitting room with lovely sea views. In addition, the bathrooms are decorated with Italian ceramic tiles.
Many of the attractions of the English Riviera are easily accessible and probably the most popular of them all is Dartmoor. A vast moorland expanse famous for its ponies and stunning scenery is just a 30-minute drive and is well worth the visit. Paignton Zoo and The Living Coast Aviary will keep children and adults alike entertained for hours. The coast is never far away and the sandy beach at Torquay is only ½ mile away and was once quoted as ‘the loveliest sea village in England’ by the poet Lord Tennyson. This is apparent everywhere with palm trees and other subtropical plants that flourish in the mild climate. Sandy beaches and clear waters are perfect for bathing, and there are boat trips to the Channel Islands that leave from the harbour at regular intervals. Shop and pub ½ mile. Spacious living room and separate dining room, each with gas ‘coal-effect’ fire and French doors leading to south-facing terrace. Breakfast room with TV. Well-equipped, spacious kitchen with breakfast bar, limed oak cabinets, brick-built gas/electric range and ceramic-tiled floor. Study with TV. Utility. Two separate toilets. First floor: Three double bedrooms; one with 5ft bed, sitting room, TV and en-suite bathroom with separate shower cubicle and toilet, one with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet, and one with en-suite shower room with toilet.
