Accommodation overview: Formerly the home of the acclaimed artist Sir Alfred Munnings - famous for his paintings of horses, hunting scenes, landscapes and village characters - this magnificent Grade II listed detached house was also the venue of the artist’s special punch parties. Steeped in history, Mendham Hall displays many unusual and interesting features. Heavily beamed, the house also has a wealth of inlaid oak floors, mullion windows and two unusual fireplaces. From the sunny garden room, French doors lead to the fully enclosed rear lawned garden where a glass of wine can be enjoyed on the paved patio before dinner. Comfortable and spacious throughout, the Hall provides a unique holiday base and is set in the heart of the beautiful Suffolk countryside on the edge of the Waveney Valley with many wonderful walks. Within ½ hour’s drive is the Suffolk Heritage Coast, where the popular seaside resorts of Southwold and Aldeburgh are situated. Also to be found along the coastline are Walberswick and Dunwich RSPB Reserve. Going in the other direction from Mendham Hall leads to the Norfolk Broads and the pretty market towns of Harleston, Beccles (the start of the Broads) and Bungay (for canoe and bicycle hire). Also within an easy drive are the North Norfolk Coast and the city of Norwich with its castle, cathedral and museums. Shop 2 miles, pub 100 yards.
