The South Hams boasts the mildest climate in Britain. Paignton, 2 miles, has a small harbour, zoo and steam railway. Torquay, 4 miles, has sailing, tennis and sports centre and combines the exotic and the classically English; coloured lights festoon the harbour by night. It has many good sandy beaches, giving it an almost Mediterranean feel. Inland is medieval town of Totnes with castle and 16th-century buildings. From the quayside are boat trips down the beautiful River Dart to Dartmouth; the S. Devon Railway runs steam trains to Buckfastleigh. Within easy reach is the spectacular Dartmoor National Park. Shop/PO 700 yards, restaurant/pub1 mile (‘a la carte’ one 400 yards), supermarkets a short drive. Better access for disabled. Adjoins Rose Cottage.
