There are many and varied walks direct from the door, with Malham Cove just a short walk away. Attracting many visitors, the Cove rises 300 feet above a small stream below. On the cliff top is the famous limestone pavement - a characteristic area of slabs and clefts formed over the years by water erosion. The Malham Tarn Estate itself (apart from the high moorland landscape with stunning limestone features) includes some six farms, some with hay meadows rich in flower species. There is a National Nature Reserve around Malham Tarn, and bird watchers can make use of the bird hide provided. Light refreshments can be enjoyed in Malham village after viewing the wonderful scenery, where an exhibition about farming in the Dales can also be seen.
Not far away lies the historic market town of Skipton, with its well-preserved castle and broad selection of shops, inns and restaurants.
