Accommodation overview: An Talla is a charming seaside cottage situated in the picturesque fishing village of Rockfield.  Originally the village gospel hall, from which it takes its Gaelic name, An Talla has been sympathetically and attractively converted and refurbished to provide a high standard of accommodation in a superb location.  It is situated right on the water's edge, with gardens leading directly on the sand and shingle beach. With dolphins, porpoises and a wide variety of seabirds spotted directly from the cottage windows it is truly the quintessential seaside holiday cottage. Most of the accommodation is on the ground floor. A bright and spacious lounge opens onto a conservatory-style dining area. The whole room is dominated by the amazing seascapes and lovely mountain scenery beyond.  A partially glassed door leads out to a decking area, ideal for alfresco dining and enjoying a glass or a dram as you drink in the incredible views.  The pretty fishing village of Rockfield owes its existence to the sea.  Built mainly in the 1820s during the salmon fishing and herring boom its attractive white washed cottages along the shoreline have been lovingly restored over the years and the village is now a quiet backwater that provides an ideal base for visitors to enjoy its quiet charm. The nearby village of Portmahomack has a superb sweeping sandy beach, with stunning views to the Sutherland Mountains beyond. The village also boasts an excellent seafood restaurant, pub, cafe and a lovely traditional links golf course which is open to visitors. The area is renowned for its archaeological sites and at the nearby Tarbat Discovery Centre there is a fascinating display of Pictish, Norse and Medieval artefacts. Within ten minutes drive lies the oldest Royal Burgh of Scotland.  Predominantly built local mellow sandstone, Tain is a charming historic town and offers an excellent selection of small shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs as well as a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities, including tennis courts, public gardens, golf club and bowling club, all of which are available to visitors.  It is ideally located for exploring the whole of the Highland region.  Nearby places of interest include the whisky distillery centre, home of Glenmorangie single malt, the famous Falls of Shin, one of the few places to see salmon leaping close to hand and the enchanting town of Dornoch, with its magnificent Cathedral, award winning sandy beach and championship golf course.   Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Dukes of Sutherland, is situated a few miles further north. With its spectacular gardens modelled on Versailles and its location on the edge of the sea, it is well worth a visit.  A day trip to the Orkney Isles is also a must as is the fairytale Castle of Mey, the Queen Mothers former home situated on the spectacular north coast.  Head to the west and you will meet the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic coast, with its white shell-sand bays and pretty coves, all within two hours drive.  Rockfield village is also less than an hour's drive from Inverness, the capital of the Highlands.  Riding, fishing, hill-walking, climbing, bird-watching, and a wide variety of water-sports are all available locally.  There is also a slipway close to the property for those wishing to bring their own boat or canoe.
