Accommodation overview: Goose Cottage is a delightful terraced, converted stone steading, situated in the countryside within the heart of West Lothian. This is a fantastic location giving you wonderful countryside views, overlooking rolling fields but also with easy access to public transport and motorways to explore further afield. Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling are a half hour drive away and Perthshire can be reached within an hour. The cottage is attractively presented, with good attention to detail. The lounge has a leather sofa and two easy chairs. The lounge and kitchen are open plan and boasts a wood burning stove. A picture window looks out into the west facing courtyard. The fully fitted kitchen is well equipped and from here there is access onto the private, fully enclosed east facing garden. From the garden you are looking out onto open countryside and on a clear day you can see Arthur's Seat at Edinburgh. Both first floor bedrooms are beautifully coordinated and have coombed ceilings with velux windows. This lovely cottage sits in a quiet converted steading and is only a short drive from shops and eateries. You are free to ramble in the surrounding countryside and a short drive will allow you to explore the Pentland Hills. The Union Canal makes for a great walk but is also good to cycle. The area has numerous places of interest to visit, all within easy reach from Goose Cottage so you are sure to find something for all the family to enjoy. There is the Linlithgow Palace built by James I with its magnificent lochside location, Hopetoun House and Blackness Castle. The Falkirk Wheel is a must to visit, as is the Almond Valley Heritage Centre with its museum, farm and discovery centre. For a spot of retail therapy Livingston has a great designer outlet centre called MacArthur Glen. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is close by, as is the Royal Highland Show - a fantastic four day show held every June. The Edinburgh International Arts Festival is held in August and you can easily take the 17 minute train journey to enjoy the numerous daily performances. Through the grounds runs a burn which flows into the Slitrig Water - guests can take a swim in the natural pool. There are many walks around the estate and this is an ideal spot from which to tour the beautiful Border countryside. Local activities include golf, horse-riding, fishing and hill-walking. Hawick is 2¢ miles away with good shops and pubs.The house retains many fine period features including turrets, open log fires and original wooden floors. Rooms are very generously proportioned and from the many large windows guests will enjoy magnificent views. This is the owner's treasured and well-used family home and has lots of character - furnishings are simple, comfortable and informal. Generations of children have enjoyed playing hide and seek in the house and grounds.
