The village is also home to the most remote golf course in Scotland and the thriving and unusual Balnakeil Craft Village. The furthest corner of the country, Cape Wrath, is inaccessible by road but can be visited by a unique ferry and mini-bus tour, a trip not to be missed. The final approach to Durness is by scenic single track roads which offer magnificent vistas of coast, sea and mountains at every turn. Sutherland is a vast unspoiled wilderness of great natural beauty offering unrivalled walking, climbing, biking, angling, geology and ornithology.

These are some of the most beautiful scenic surroundings to be found in the Highlands and there are lovely panoramic views from the cottage and the garden to Loch Carron and the hills beyond. Stromeferry has a launching slipway for visitors who wish to bring a boat, and a small railway station. There is no shop, but just 5 miles away is the picturesque resort of Plockton and a wider choice of shops will be found in Kyle of Lochalsh, 9 miles to the south west. The cottage dates from 1927, rooms are bright, sunny and comfortably furnished. This is a very peaceful spot, perfect for relaxing 'away from it all' and enjoying the clear air and unpolluted night sky. Stromeferry is also a good starting point for touring - north to Lochcarron, Applecross and Torridon, or south west to Kyle and across the bridge to the Isle of Skye.
