Accommodation overview: Sartle Cottage is situated on a working croft farm on a very small quiet  road that past the Quiraing Mountain range and on to Uig.  The cottage is generously proportioned with large lounge, separate dining room with welcoming Aga-style range cooker, three good-sized bedrooms and bright, modern kitchen and bathroom.  Lovely cottage gardens surround the property, with lawns, flowering shrubs and trees.  The views from the cottage and grounds are superb, with hills, mountains and sea beyond.  It is situated on a working farm in the foothills of the Quiraing mountain range in the north of Skye.  This area is renowned for its walking, climbing and wonderful coastline.  Known as the Trotternish Peninsula this region is famous for its amazing sand and limestone rock formations jutting out into the skyline from the rocks below. With the Old Man of Storr and the Kilt Rock waterfall close by it offers breathtaking scenery. The Jurassic cliffs along the shoreline are also famed in the archaeological world for dinosaur remains and their footprints have been discovered all along this dramatic coastline.   This is a superb location for climbing, sea kayaking, canoeing, pony trekking, sea, loch and river fishing, cycling and for just enjoying the peace and tranquillity of this totally unspoilt area. Just along the coast lies Staffin Bay.  With a pretty, natural harbour and lovely beach it is well worth a visit.  Take a cruise from here in a small fishing boat out to the small islands in the bay. The pretty fishing port of Uig is 7 miles away and has a number of excellent pubs and restaurants, a local bakery, pottery and is also the home of the Isle of Skye brewery.  From Uig one can take a day ferry trip to the Outer Isles.   The islands capital, Portree, with it picturesque harbour crammed full of fishing boats, encircled by brightly painted cottages and restaurants is just 20 minutes drive away.  Museums, castles and sites of historical interest all add to the magic and charm of this beautiful and unspoilt isle.

Traum is the Gaelic word for deep, as in sleep, and this aptly describes the seclusion and tranquillity of its setting, which offers complete privacy whilst being easily accessible. The cottage has been in the same family for over seventy years and in that time it has been extended and refurbished to provide bright and spacious accommodation, whilst retaining its traditional charm and ambience. The large sitting room cum library is a feature of the house. The owners have supplied a wide range of books and the lovely paintings on the walls are mainly originals by local Highland artists. Extensive private natural grounds surround the house. Spring flowers, azaleas, maple and other mature trees, with grassed areas, all add to its charm. A steep slope, with paths, lead down to parkland by the tumbling River Glass below. Views of Fyrish monument, the Cromarty Firth and the mountains complete the picture. The area is a haven for wild life; pine martin, deer, eagles and a variety of other birds can often be seen. The Cromarty Firth is renowned for its large population of seals which bask along the shore line and the nearby Moray Firth is home to the famous bottle nosed dolphins that are regularly spotted in the area. Traum is situated in the heart of clan Munro country. It is in Glen Glass, at the top of which sits Loch Glass with its back drop of the awe inspiring Wyvis mountain range (the summit of Ben Wyvis stands at over 3,400 feet).The surrounding area is a hill walker's and an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Climbing, riding, golf, mountain-biking, stalking, salmon and trout fishing are all readily available locally. Set around its natural harbour, with spectacular hills and mountains beyond, Portree is a quintessentially picturesque fishing village.  Brightly painted cottages cluster round the active harbour where some of the finest fish restaurants can be found.  There is also an excellent selection of local shops, pubs and other restaurants.
