Set within the Lower Mill Estate, visitors have access to the spa complex with steam room, sauna, outdoor and indoor heated swimming pools and hard tennis court. Boating, canoeing, nature trails, cycle tracks and a children’s play area (with trampolines) can be enjoyed. There is an organic farm shop on site. Renowned for its wonderful wildlife, the habitat enables visitors to observe at first hand dragonflies, hobbies, sand martins and the possible sighting of water voles and otters. In winter over 20,000 water birds of 40 different species visit the lakes including goosander and bittern.
This beautiful area offers a network of lakeside paths and bridleways, including the Thames and Severn Canal, to explore hidden countryside. Many fine traditional pubs, cafes and hotels are to be found in local Cotswold villages offering delicious homemade food and speciality beverages. The handsome and historic town of Cirencester with its beautiful church and town square is just a short drive away for sightseeing and specialist shopping, including book, interior design and antique shops, while Bath and Oxford are easily accessible for those who wish to explore further afield. Accommodation overview: Situated in the heart of the Royal Forest of Dean, famed for its wild deer population, is 200-year-old detached Kensley Lodge. The lodge is located in an enviable position within the centre of the forest and benefits from having no neighbours in the surrounding area. Sitting in over an acre of beautifully landscaped gardens, which have been designed to encourage local wildlife (including rare dragonflies and many wild birds), the holiday property boasts a wonderful deer meadow to the rear, which is interspersed with trees and shrubs, whilst the garden provides many walkways leading to different planting schemes.
The house has been decorated to a high standard with excellent finishes throughout, providing comfortable and bright interiors and every room possessing unspoilt views of the gardens and forest beyond. A games room offers numerous activities for all ages, including a pool table, table tennis and badminton. Toddlers and small children are provided for with a fenced-off area within the garden offering a place to play, whilst the garden’s perimeter is fully secure.
The area offers some of the finest walking and cycling routes in the country including Offa’s Dyke, Wye Valley Walk and Three Castles Walk, all with stunning scenery and ‘black and white’ villages en route. Ross-on-Wye, Chepstow, Tintern and Monmouth are all within easy access. Water sports, river boat tours and bird-watching are all nearby. Shops 1½ miles. Two steps to entrance.
