Less than 3 miles away is the long stretch of sand and dunes at Camber, the pebble beach at Winchelsea, and Rye’s yachting harbour, and excellent walking, boating and fishing trips are all available locally. The town makes a splendid base for visiting the many castles and historic houses in the area, including Bodiam Castle, Great Dixter with its famous gardens, and Smallhythe Place (NT), all nearby. Within an hour’s drive are Tunbridge Wells, Canterbury and Eastbourne, while Ashford is only 20 minutes, offering day trips to Paris and Brussels by Eurostar. Shops 10 yards, pub 25 yards.
