The cottage has been fully modernised whilst retaining traditional features and is homely and comfortable, providing a lovely retreat for a couple or a small family - all rooms are on one level. There are flowering front gardens and to the rear, a small enclosed garden with seating and lovely river views.
The market town of Lockerbie is 2.5 miles away with a good selection of shops, pubs and hotels. Visitors will enjoy quiet roads through beautiful countryside to Carlisle, Dumfries or Gretna, all a short drive away. The Solway Coast is famous for its beaches and cliff top walks as well as inland forest, woodland and hill walking. Cycling here is amazing on quiet byways or the more adventurous '7 Stanes' mountain bike trails. This is also a golfer's paradise and loch/river fishing is easily accessible.

Accommodation overview: In an idyllic peaceful location, with wonderful unspoilt views over the countryside, this pretty semi-detached cottage enjoys a degree of remoteness, some three miles from the main road but is still within easy reach of nearby Thornhill, Closeburn, and a little further afield, Dumfries. This is a horse rider's paradise with stables adjacent and stabling available at an extra charge if you want to bring your own horse. The quaint property is bright, airy and very homely and is the ideal base for a sporting break or just a relaxing week in front of an open fire.
Drumlanrig Castle is a short drive away, and houses a famous art collection, including works by Rembrandt and Leonardo as well as offering a great family day out with an adventure playground and 7 STANES mountain bike trails at AE forest (2 miles). Bikes can be hired at Drumlanrig and tuition is available. There is loch fishing just 1 mile from the cottage and salmon fishing in the Nith. Falconry lessons and Vintage Car Hire can be organised at a nearby hotel, only a couple of miles away. Hillwalkers make the most of the Southern Upland Way and golfers alike are well catered for. At one time the house belonged to John Charles Cuninghame, 17th Laird of Craigends in Renfrewshire and in 1919 the estate came up for sale and the following is an extract from the London Times, December 6, 1919 ... the sporting, residential and agricultural estate of Dunragit, in the county of Wigtown, extending to an area of about 7438 acres, and including DUNRAGIT HOUSE and policies, Factors house, estate cottages, 20 valuable farms, capital grouse and salmon and sea trout fishing in the river Luce for a distance of 41 miles. DUNRAGIT HOUSE, situated in well timbered policies, over-drawing room. library, billiard room, 12 principal bed and dressing rooms, 11 servants bed rooms, four bathrooms, with attics and ample domestic offices. The name Dunragit, means the fort of Rheged one of the ancient kingdoms of Britain and the area is steeped in history from standing stones to ancient fortresses and strongholds.

Accommodation overview: Pieces of 8 is a charming mid terraced cottage set in the pretty little village of Palnackie in the heart of Galloway. The accommodation is spread over three floors and is immaculately presented throughout with a cosy open fire in the lounge making this cottage a suitable choice regardless of the season. The name of the cottage is apposite as this area was notorious for its smuggling connections. Never more so than at nearby Balcary where the hotel was riddled with holes for secreting the contraband.
