Ideally located for honeymooners it sits only 20 minutes from Gretna Green on a stretch of coastline characterised by wide expanses of mudflats attracting wild geese and a great variety of seabirds. An RSPB reserve lies close by and picturesque Powfoot village boasts a challenging 18 hole links golf course and hotel whilst the local area's quiet roads form part of the main cycle route in Dumfriesshire. Dumfries itself lies just 14 miles away and here the visitor will find good shops an indoor swimming pool and the Burns Heritage Trail. Bar and restaurant ½ mile; shops 3½ miles.

Accommodation overview: The lovely cottage is a former coach house and laundry to the adjoining 18 century Dunragit House and estate. At one time the house belonged to John Charles Cuninghame, 17th Laird of Craigends in Renfrewshire and in 1919 the estate came up for sale and the following is an extract from the London Times, December 6, 1919 ... the sporting, residential and agricultural estate of Dunragit, in the county of Wigtown, extending to an area of about 7438 acres, and including DUNRAGIT HOUSE and policies, Factors house, estate cottages, 20 valuable farms, capital grouse and salmon and sea trout fishing in the river Luce for a distance of 41 miles. DUNRAGIT HOUSE, situated in well timbered policies, over-drawing room. library, billiard room, 12 principal bed and dressing rooms, 11 servants bed rooms, four bathrooms, with attics and ample domestic offices. The name Dunragit, means the fort of Rheged one of the ancient kingdoms of Britain and the area is steeped in history from standing stones to ancient fortresses and strongholds.

The Old Brewery Brae Store is a delightful listed building dating back to the 18th century. Gatehouse of Fleet is a pretty wee toon and Brewery Brae Store is centrally located off the high street allowing easy access to the many facilities on offer. Why do people keep coming back to the area? Gatehouse of Fleet is set in the midst of a national scenic area close to a magnificent coastline and surrounded by hills and forests. Accommodation overview: In a stunning location on the banks of the 'Water of Milk' river, this traditional detached cottage is adjacent to the owner's home ( a former watermill built in 1755) and is perfect for a relaxing holiday in beautiful countryside. The cottage has been fully modernised whilst retaining traditional features and is homely and comfortable, providing a lovely retreat for a couple or a small family - all rooms are on one level. There are flowering front gardens and to the rear, a small enclosed garden with seating and lovely river views.
The market town of Lockerbie is 2.5 miles away with a good selection of shops, pubs and hotels. Visitors will enjoy quiet roads through beautiful countryside to Carlisle, Dumfries or Gretna, all a short drive away. The Solway Coast is famous for its beaches and cliff top walks as well as inland forest, woodland and hill walking. Cycling here is amazing on quiet byways or the more adventurous '7 Stanes' mountain bike trails. This is also a golfer's paradise and loch/river fishing is easily accessible.
